It was a good fast read with a worldly anti-hero. The pace of the story was fast and the observations of the hero often angry but also often witty. Mark Vander is a clued in hero and I'm looking forward to more of his adventures.Product details

Shoot First Think Later A Mark Vander novel Book 1 edition by Hamish Austin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Fast paced action across the Sydney suburbs. Good to see there are characters around with a bit of steel like Mark Vander to keep one step ahead of the Sydney underworld. I think Robert T. Barrett would be proud of his work. Looking forward to his next adventure.
This Mark Vander crime fiction reminded me of those Scandinavian crime writers who are gritty & capture the feeling of the location, in this instance, Sydney rather than Scandinavia.
The story rips along, yet there is a real sense of the characters, who they are & how they tick. The main character, Mark Vander, is a flawed, credible & likeable Aussie detective (well, Federal bodyguard in fact). There is a real sense of the grittier side, the seamy side of Sydney, the swearing, drink-obsessed gun-toting inhabitants. Yet we come to know that there is "nicer" side to this city, to which, ultimately, Vander wants to escape & live an ordinary life. We somehow know that this won't be likely- the ordinary life, at least.
A good, fast paced crime novel with a real Aussie feel... as long as you don't mind a bit of violence & swearing, which isn't over the top.
